Can you believe it’s already July? We’ve been open for seven weeks now, and it’s been great to reconnect with the Highland family and see so many people trying downhill mountain biking for the first time. It really does finally feel like summer!

We want to remind all of our visitors that we are still operating under COVID-19 safety guidelines. Please remember to reserve your pass online and bring a mask with you! For all of the details, check out our Highland How-To Guide.

We had an incredibly dry spring, but summer has brought with it some much-needed rain to water the trails. In some cases torrential rain, which isn’t exactly what we wanted, but we’ll take what we can get. Most of our trail work this month will be focused on existing trail maintenance.

The question we’re hearing most often from you is “when will Tombstone open?” Due to the ongoing construction of Lower NE Style, access to and from Tombstone requires some rerouting. We have several different options and are in the process of choosing the best one. We do plan to open Tombstone very soon. You can expect more updates on Lower NE Style in late summer or fall.

Update: Two hours after this park report went live, Trail Crew dropped the rope on Tombstone!

Right now, conditions are what you’d typically expect from mid-July. Trails are running fast and fun. As the weather oscillates between sunshine and thunderstorms, we’re consistently reminded not to trust the forecast. Many times this month we’ve been promised a day of nonstop of rain and only gotten scattered showers, leaving riders who had been willing to risk some mud with a full day of hero dirt and no lift lines. That’s New England riding: you never know exactly what you’re in for.

Make the most of these long summer days and come on out to hit the trails!

Meanwhile, the new and improved 2020 Friday Night Race Series has taken off. All racing spots are filled, but the competition is only just beginning. There are six more weeks in the series for racers to earn points for their teams. This Friday’s race, sponsored by Mutt Society, will take place on Fancy Feast. Results and photos from each week will be posted on our website for anyone who wants to follow along.

NEW TRAINING PROGRAM: Are you comfortable shredding pretty much everything at the mountain, but interested in dialing in your skills even further and picking up some new techniques? Consider signing up for Progression Sessions! This small-group training program is specifically designed for advanced intermediate and expert riders who already have a solid grasp of the fundamentals. Your group will meet for four three-hour sessions of professional coaching and guided freeride on Wednesday or Sunday afternoons. Group size maxes out at six riders, but we do still have spaces available. Everyone has room to progress, and we’re here to help you reach your goals.

With the season now underway, we are once again hiring across most departments. Work and play at your favorite bike park! We are actively seeking motivated and enthusiastic staff to join our training, guest services, and maintenance teams. Employee benefits include a 2020 season pass, special riding privileges, and discounts in the pub, store, and bike shop.

We hope you’re staying safe and having fun this summer. See you out on the trails!
