Easy Rider Junior, The non lift access kid friendly trail

As you know we have just recently completed our huge project of building the new lift access kid friendly trail “Easy Rider.” This is huge to help progress our sport by giving beginners a trail that can really foster learning bike skills in a safe environment. Even with easy rider being so safe and controlled, jumping into a trail like that can still be very intimidating and overwhelming so we created a non lift access kid friendly trail on the hill. This is a great trail to bring a first timer onto before actually taking them up the lift. It’s a great spot to teach the fundamentals without all the pressure. The trail starts above the upper jump park and connects with the pre existing rollers and berms below the dual slalom course. Check out some pictures below and remember to bring the kids next time you come out to…

Amateur Slopestyle Competition: Video, Results, and more!

Today was an epic day at highland. All day it seemed rain was approaching off in the distance but it stayed far away for the full day leaving the slopestyle course sunny and hot! Right from the beginning of practice riders were throwing down. The rider pool was not what you would expect to see at a slopestyle event, with around half of the riders being over 30 it was a cool sight to see. And these guys didn’t hold back giving the young guns a run for their money but at the end of the day it was the young guns that took the podium. Highland bike shop employees Chad “Steak” Deluca and Chris “green tires” Chimeilewski taking fourth and third, Highland regular rider Chad Allen taking second and in first another Highland regular, Aaron Hamel. It was an epic vibe with all the riders and the competition was…

Team Highland At Windham

This past weekend Team Highland headed up to the Windham World Cup of mountainbiking to race the Gravity East race. Friday morning Damon was told he was chosen to be a four runner for the World Cup. He was able to practice on the coarse with the pros and did a run to test timing before qualifying and the race. It was a great opportunity for Damon and an awesome experience. Coming into the race Sam Wiggin was looking quick and was on pace to win but clipped something in an open section and put him out of contentions. After rolling through the woods Sam got back on the bike and was only 26 seconds off the win showing he had the speed to be top three easily. Chuck, battling a foot injury also managed to crash in his run but still pulled of a third showing he is one…

A Day at Ayr Academy

Yesterday marked day number 3 for Ayr Academy campers. Here is a little clip of a day in the life of an Ayr Academy camper!

Team Highland at ESC #4

This past weekend team highland traveled to plattekill mountain for race #4 of the eastern states cup. With Sam not racing this one and Chuck out with an injury and camper problems on the mind Damon and Grayson were left to battle the heavy rain that came in sunday. Grayson dominated his class again by sixteen seconds extending the points lead and Damon is now 4/4 on wins for the series this year in the JRx class and would have placed fourth in Pro. Also Dylan Conte suffered a machanical breaking his chain in the first corner but still finished strong. Another mention goes out to Highland team member Sam Wiggin who placed third at Pats Peak but wasn’t in the last blog. All of the team will be at the worldcup for the Gravity east race so stop by and say Hi!! -Charles C Morin

Team Highland at Eastern States Cup 2+3

The past two weekends have been really productive for team highland! They spent their past two weekends at the Eastern States Cup races at Pats Peak and Attitash. Damon Morin has been on fire in Jr.X! Getting first place at both Attitash and Pats Peak. This now sits him at three wins for three races this series. Also in Jr.X Highland Mountain Employee Dylan Conte has been nipping at Damon’s heels with 2nd place at Pats Peak only one tenth of a second off Damon; and at Attitash taking third place. Chuck Morin has also been a dominating force recently! At Pats Peak Chuck took second place with a smoking time. Unfortunately Chuck’s race run at Attitash was cut short due to there being a rock kicked in the course that entirely blocked the trail in a high speed section. Chuck fell really hard and instead of trying to finish…

Team Highland vs. The Pro GRT

Despite an almost constant downpour on Sunday the Pro GRT stop #2 at Highland Mountain was a huge success! The course was fast, loose and fun all weekend and with the rain the racing only got more exciting. Team Highland had an amazing weekend with podium finishes for all four riders. In the competitive Jr Expert Class Damon Morin took second, missing first by only five tenths of a second. His time would have gotten him 24th in the pro class against some of the fastest pros in the nation. Charles Morin, Damon’s father, got 1st in the Expert Men 40+ class by 6 seconds. Charles’s younger son Grayson Morin took 3rd in the Junior Beginner class. And Sam Wiggin of Team Highland also took 3rd in the Sport 19-29 class. This was a great start to the 2011 race season for Team Highland! Keep up the good work Damon,…
